Import Audio and Video
Import songs, rehearsal recordings, lesson videos, or complete .gjproject packages. Files are processed on your current device. Once the waveform is ready, you can play and practice.
Phone and Tablet Apps
On a phone, use the upper-right menu; on a tablet, select Import at the top. Available methods include:
- Select File: choose media from your device, cloud storage, or another file provider through the system file picker.
- Photo Library: select videos from your photos, including saved screen recordings.
- Record Audio: record with the microphone, preview it, and import it into the workspace. See Record Audio.
- Record Video: shoot a video, preview it, and bring it into the workspace. See Record Video.
- LAN Transfer: use a computer webpage on the same network to transfer files into the app's library. See LAN Transfer.
The controls shown depend on your device's capabilities. If a file from a messaging app does not appear in the file picker, save it to Files from the original app first.
Browser Version
Select Import in the toolbar, or drag a file into the window. Audio, video, and .gjproject files all use this entry point; each drop accepts only one file.
The browser version does not include the app's photo library, audio/video recording, or LAN server controls. The LAN transfer webpage is a separate management interface; see Platform Differences.
Formats and Codecs
Common audio formats include MP3, WAV, M4A / AAC, FLAC, OGG / Opus, AIF / AIFF, and CAF. Video formats include MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, AVI, MKV, MPG / MPEG, and 3GP. Some related extensions and .gjproject packages are also accepted.
Recognizing an extension does not guarantee that its contents can be decoded. Actual support depends on the system or browser; containers such as MOV and MKV may contain different codecs. When importing through the file picker, some files without extensions can be identified by their headers. For browser drag-and-drop, use the correct extension.
If you encounter compatibility issues, try MP3, M4A, WAV, or an MP4 with a common codec first. See Import Failures.
Why Importing Takes Time
The app probes the media, decodes its audio, and generates the waveform. Videos may also need audio extraction and compression. Duration, codec, and device performance all affect the wait.
Audio processing and picture display are handled separately, so video projects also support slow playback, loops, and scrubbing, with the picture following the playback position.
Large or Long Files
The current general import limit is 30 minutes; your device's decoding memory budget may shorten the selectable range. If the file exceeds the duration or memory budget, follow the prompt to trim it to the section you need. A single audio file over 1 GiB is rejected; reduce its size or split it with another tool first.
Compression mainly reduces disk space and cannot replace shortening overly long audio. See Large Files and Memory.
Before importing new media, save any current project you want to keep.
