Separate Instruments
The app can separate a song into four stems: Vocals, Drums, Bass, and Other. Listen to a part alone, lower its volume for a backing track, or adjust its left/right position.
Browsers cannot perform new separation, but can import project packages with stems and use the same mixing controls.
Start Separation
On phones, switch to the Stems panel; on tablets, select the Stems tool tab, then start separation. On first use, follow the prompts to prepare a model, then confirm processing.
Separation runs locally on the device without uploading audio. Keep the app in the foreground; do not lock the screen or switch away. The screen stays awake and may dim when idle.
The current limit for one separation is 15 minutes, with a device memory check too. Trim longer material or material that puts too much pressure on memory first.
Choose a Model
GrooveJog currently uses SCNet, with Standard (Small) and High Quality (Large) options. High Quality requires more processing time and resources; follow your device's prompts for available options.
- iOS: the Standard download is about 37 MB and High Quality about 143 MB. Supported devices prompt for a choice on first use. Download, switch, or delete models in Settings.
- Android: Standard is bundled; High Quality requires a separate download of about 176 MB. You can switch later in Settings.
Download size differs from required free space; processing also needs temporary space. Check the on-screen prompts before starting. On low-memory devices, processing may fail or the system may close the app even if you are allowed to try.
Model Quality and Storage Quality
These settings do different things:

Storage quality is adjusted in Settings and applies only to future separations. Existing results are not converted automatically.
Save the Results
After completion, the panel shows a four-stem mixer. Results initially belong to the current workspace; Save Project keeps them with the project. You can also use “Separate and Save.”
To transfer to a browser or another device, select Include separated tracks when exporting a project package.
I Can Still Hear Other Instruments
Separated stems may retain other instruments or reverb; they are not the recording's original multitracks. Try another model, lower other stems, or listen with EQ adjustments.
