Pan Stems

Each stem's Pan determines whether its sound is left, centered, or right. The difference is usually easier to hear with headphones.

Find the Pan Control

Select a stem's name or expand button in the mixer to show its Pan slider and Mono switch below. Drag the slider left/right and adjust by listening.

For example, move the bass you are learning slightly left and other parts slightly right to try distinguishing them while retaining accompaniment. Whether this helps depends on the material and output device.

Stereo and Mono

• Keep stereo: centered Pan preserves the stem's original left/right information; moving it shifts toward one side.
• Enable Mono for that stem: combine it into mono first, then position it with Pan. Even with Pan centered, this changes its original stereo width.

This Mono switch applies only to that stem and differs from whole-track channel selection in the Playback panel.

Relationship to Whole-Track Channel Selection

Channel selection in the Playback panel applies to the overall output after stem mixing. With Left Channel selected, a stem panned fully right may be inaudible. Mono combines the differences created by left/right placement.

Choose Stereo for the whole track to retain panning. If the change is unclear on speakers, compare with headphones.
